Remember, You're Focused On Listening To Your Stomach, Not Your Emotions...

The fires devastating the Los Angeles community have affected so many of us, and my heart is with everyone navigating this difficult time. Whether you’re dealing with displacement, health challenges, or emotional stress, please know you’re not alone. Recovery isn’t just about rebuilding homes—it’s about rebuilding our sense of safety, health, and balance.

During stressful times like these, taking care of yourself becomes more important than ever. I know it’s hard to prioritize self-care when life feels chaotic, but even small acts of kindness toward your body can make a world of difference.

Protecting Your Health

  • Air Quality Matters: Use HEPA purifiers to reduce harmful particles indoors. If you need to go outside, wear an N95 mask and limit your exposure when air quality is poor.

  • Hydration is Key: Drink 8–10 glasses of water daily to help your body flush out toxins. Herbal teas, like chamomile or ginger, can soothe inflammation and provide a calming ritual.

  • Soothe Your Lungs: If the air feels harsh on your respiratory system, try steam therapy with eucalyptus oil to clear your airways and bring some relief.

  • Detoxification Support: If accessible, an infrared sauna can help your body recover from oxidative stress, but remember to hydrate before and after.

Caring For Your Nervous System

  • Sleep Heals: Aim for at least 7 hours of rest each night. Sleep helps your body heal, regulate stress hormones, and restore balance.

  • Mindfulness and Breathwork: A few moments of deep breathing or simple meditation can calm your mind and help you find clarity in the chaos. Practices like Kirtan Kriya or other guided meditations can work wonders.

  • Gentle Movement: When the air quality allows, get outside for a short walk. Even a brief connection with nature can lower stress and remind you of the beauty in resilience.

As we focus on rebuilding, I also want to challenge you to bring balance back to your plate and your routine. This week’s challenge is simple yet transformative: Eat only half of your usual portion.

I know it can feel scary—fear of not having enough might creep in. But here’s the thing: you can eat again as soon as you’re hungry. Half a portion gives your body time to catch up (it takes about 15 minutes for your brain to realize you’re full!) and helps you recognize when you’re eating for physical hunger versus boredom, stress, or emotions.

Balance is key, and every food group plays an important role in keeping you strong:

  • Fruits and veggies give you vitamins, fiber, and antioxidants to support your body.

  • Proteins help repair and rebuild, giving you strength and resilience.

  • Whole grains provide steady energy to keep you going.

  • Healthy fats support your brain, heart, and overall well-being.

Trendy diets like keto or paleo might make us forget these basics, but they matter now more than ever. A plate filled with a little of everything—half veggies, a bit of protein, healthy fat, and a mindful portion of carbs—is your best medicine.

Takeaway for the Week
In these challenging times, trust your body and the small, intentional steps you take toward balance. Whether it’s eating half a portion, hydrating more, or simply taking a deep breath, every act of self-care strengthens you. Recovery starts with resilience, and resilience starts with you.

We’re in this together. Let’s take care of ourselves and each other with compassion, patience, and love. If you need support, I’m here for you.

With solidarity and care,
